See sleek, modern houseboat on Seattle Floating Homes Tour
A mosaic of light dances across the bedroom ceiling in Jessica and Kevin Vanderzanden's new houseboat. The shimmering reflections off Lake Union are a constant reminder that their home floats gently above the water. "It's fantastic having the water just inches away," Jessica Vanderzanden said. Like many details in the sparkling 1,600-square-foot modern home, the light show was a pleasant surprise the couple only discovered after moving in last April, she said.
Boat owners take district of West Kelowna to court
Houseboats are once again at the centre of a dispute in West Kelowna. A group of houseboat owners who were told to move their boats this summer are challenging the district of West Kelowna in court.
Explore Lake Powell by houseboat this fall
When the Glen Canyon Dam was built back in 1966, it created Lake Powell, the second largest man-made lake in the United States behind Lake Mead. Covering more than 250 square miles in area, Lake Powell falls along the border of Utah and Arizona, a spectacularly beautiful region of the country that offers picturesque sandstone cliffs, winding canyons, and sun drenched vistas. It is truly an amazing natural setting that is best explored by boat, or better yet, by houseboat.
Hurricane Earl rumbles toward North Carolina’s Outer Banks
Hurricane Earl strengthened overnight and is expected to skirt the Outer Banks of North Carolina tonight, as evacuations continue and Labor Day plans are in jeopardy for vacationers up and down the East Coast.

All The Way From Ukraine
A Ukraine company visits On Water Expo
The first On Water Houseboat Expo in 2009 became a Mecca for those wanting to admire the latest models of houseboats, or to simply just shake hands with the brains behind their favorite builders. It also became a place to find business partners, or at least it did for two Ukraine businessmen.
On Water Expo This Weekend
Houseboat Magazine Returns to Cumberland
Following the wild success of the first-ever On Water Houseboat Expo in 2009, Houseboat magazine is doing it all again. Head on over to State Dock on beautiful Lake Cumberland August 27-29 to enjoy everything the houseboating lifestyle has to offer! “This is a great opportunity for attendees to experience houseboating as it is,” Greg Larsen, Expo producer, said.
All Dried Up?
Don’t let dry skin beach you
I’m a lucky guy when it comes to this topic; my skin rarely has dryness issues. My wife’s family, however, deals with dry skin and other related issues on a constant basis. As they live in a desert climate, this is a regular battle.
An Update on CO Safety
Houseboats were in the safety spotlight a few years ago when people were poisoned by carbon monoxide as they swam. The culprit was generator exhaust that lingered over the water. Thanks to the houseboat industry’s design improvements and education campaigns, CO is less a problem today, but that doesn’t mean liveaboards are immune.
